“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
John 11:26 KJV
Death is never easy on our hearts. When we love people so dearly that our hearts cared for so much it hurts to see them go.
In John 11 a man by the name of Lazarus passes on. His death brought a sore grievance amongst his family and the Jews. Mary didn’t understand why Jesus had not came and healed him. Martha was beyond broken hearted. The devastation of this loss was sweeping the town. Finally, Jesus decides to enter amongst them. The Bible actually records that Jesus was troubled and groaned in spirit and “Jesus Wept” but why?
Now, first thing i‘d like to say is Jesus was full of compassion for people. The Bible actually states the “he was moved by compassion”. He became one with the people wherever he went. He hurt if they hurt, he rejoiced if they rejoiced, & he wept if they wept. Jesus is always one mind with His body.
However, while the weeping we see in John 11 is a oneness of spirit with the hearts of His people, we must also understand unbelief was in operation amongst this crowd. There’s nothing that grieves the spirit more than unbelief. It breaks the heart of the LORD when we doubt the power of God.
Therefore, Jesus looks out and says, Lazarus come forth! Need I remind you the very voice of heaven had to call Lazarus by name for had He said “come forth” without identifying him by name every tomb in Jerusalem would have sprang forth life!
This sickness was not unto death but for the glory of God! I believe this morning that’s the key of faith that we must hold to. Although we do not understand, although our heart aches like never before, and although we feel like God is late and missed an appointment, we must have faith that all of Gods divinely appointed acts in His creation is for His glory!
Do we believe? Jesus asked Martha, “And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
I think we fail to understand the context of this passage my friends. Jesus said, “NEVER DIE.” When Jesus rose Lazareth from the dead I announce to you by faith that He Never Died Again! And I’m not speaking of his flesh and bones, but I speak of his spirit.
If we would only believe in Jesus we will NEVER DIE! We are resurrected into newness of life. Jesus said “This is eternal life that you know God the Father and the Son in whom He hath sent!” Eternal life doesn’t begin after the grave. We’re not going to enter the kingdom of Heaven after we leave this walk of life. For behold, the kingdom of Heaven is in your midst! We have eternal life! We have been resurrected! And we live, move, breath, and have our being “IN HIM”!
To be absent from these old bodies is to be present with Him “if” you’ve been born again. If you‘ve been born again by the Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost you are a new creation, old things have passed away and all things have become new. You are now seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. You are now a citizen of a heavenly kingdom! You are now the habitation of God and eternity is your destiny!! Jesus is our resurrection and our life!
Believest Thou This?
